The California Common is a beer style that was made popular by Anchor Steam Beer, and Real Ale’s recipe puts a delicious Texas twist on the West Coast original. Medium-bodied and slightly citrusy, this beer is a great complement to most poultry dishes. However, I’m no chicken when it comes to pairing beers, so let’s move past food and get to the goods! I’d like to pair Real Ale’s California Common with the most common thing in California. Now, being a native Texan, I probably don’t have the best grasp on what Californians consider “common,” but I will rely on the media and my own false perceptions of the state to guide me in the right direction.
I choose to pair this beer with Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California. Why, you might ask? Because you have to drink with Arnold if you want to live! Because tonight is your night, bro! Because boys have a penis and girls have a vagina!
You can pair this beer (or “beeyah,” as Arnold would call it) with literally any Schwarzenegger movie, and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Let Mr. Freeze keep your brew cold, or cherish this special edition beer like a Turbo-Man doll on Christmas day. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, then just watch stuff explode and shut up.
Don’t have Real Ale where you live? Then GET TO THE CHOPPER and fly directly to the brewery in Blanco, TX. You’ll arrive in plenty of time for their upcoming release party, and you’ll be able to see their new, killer filler machine, which is almost as beautiful, shiny, and European as the Terminator himself.
I’m sure Arnold would agree with me when I say that if I could choose to be any beer style in the world, I’d be the California Common. If I can choose a second one, I’ll be Bock.
